قرر الإتحاد الأوروبي تفعيل المادة 709 من قانون تنظيم اللقاءات الحاسمة وإقامة ركلات ترجيح من نقطة الجزاء مباشرة دون تمديد للوقت لمدة نصف ساعة في حالة تعادل التشيك مع تركيا بأي نتيجة .. نظراً لتساويهما في عدد النقاط وفارق الأهداف .

وكانت المادة 708 .. تنص على إقامة وقت إضافي مدته نصف ساعة على شوطين وبهذا يسدل الستار على توقعات وتنبؤات الجماهير والمتابعين .. وقد تم إبلاغ الفريقين بذلك .

وكلا الفريقان قال أنه سيحسم الأمر في الوقت الأصلي 90 دقيقة وأنه قادر على ذلك في اللقاء الحاسم بينهما الخامسة مساءاً بتوقيت جرينتش ضمن ثالث لقاءات المجموعة الأولى التي حسمها المنتخب البرتغالي برصيد 6 نقاط .. فيما يقف رصيد الأتراك والتشيك .. عند ثلاث نقاط .. حصدوها على حساب سويسرا التي خرجت من السباق حتى وإن فازت على البرتغال في نفس توقيت لقاء التشيك مع الأتراك .
